A worn pipe mill roll shows up long before it fails — as ovality, as a bright line on the surface, as a weld that will not hold speed. We supply single rolls and full sets for pipe mills already in production, including mills we did not build, working from a drawing or a worn sample.
What We Supply
- Forming, fin, welding and sizing rolls in matched pairs.
- Guide rolls, straightening rolls and edge-forming rolls.
- Roll shafts and keys where the shaft wears with the roll.
- Full replacement sets for a complete pass line.
Send the tube diameter and wall, the mill make and model and, if possible, a photo of the worn roll with its stand number. We machine to the original profile, harden and vacuum heat-treat, then finish and mark each roll for its stand.
When a pipe mill roll is the real cause of a defect
A worn roll rarely announces itself as a roll problem. It appears as one of these:
- Ovality that the sizing stands cannot remove, because the finishing pass is no longer round.
- A bright polished line along one face of the tube, where a roll edge is riding on the strip.
- Weld bead that widens over a shift, because the fin roll has lost its edge support.
- OD that needs constant adjustment, because the sizing groove has opened.
Before ordering a replacement, check bearing play in the stand and the alignment of the pass line. A roll that looks worn but is running in a loose stand will wear again in weeks.
Single roll or matched pair
Rolls work in pairs. Replacing one half of a pair with a new roll against a worn partner produces an asymmetric pass, so we quote pairs by default and single rolls only when the customer has a matched spare.
What we need to quote a pipe mill roll
- Tube outside diameter and wall thickness.
- Mill make and model, or stand shaft diameter.
- A drawing, a worn sample, or three measurements: bore, width, groove depth.
- The stand number the roll runs in.
