A tube mill roll set is a system, not a box of parts: every pass has to hand the strip to the next one with the right amount of forming left to do. We design the whole set together — strip width, flower pattern, pass distribution — then machine, harden and finish it as one batch so the passes match each other.
What a Set Includes
- Breakdown, forming, fin, welding and sizing rolls for the full line.
- Roll drawings and a pass-by-pass layout for your fitters.
- Rolls marked by stand and pass, packed in running order.
- Optional quick-change cassettes for faster size changes.
Sets are made for new lines and for size additions on mills already running. Send the tube diameter and wall range, material, line speed and mill model; the design comes back to you for approval before machining starts.
What is in a complete tube mill roll set
A full set for a round tube size normally contains breakdown rolls, forming rolls, fin and weld rolls, and sizing rolls, plus guide rolls where the mill uses them. The number of passes depends on diameter, wall and material: thin-wall small tube may need six to eight forming stands, while thick-wall or high-strength tube needs more passes to keep edge strain under control.
Matching a set to your mill, not to a catalogue
Two mills making the same tube can need different roll sets, because stand spacing, shaft diameter and the existing pass line differ. We ask for the mill layout and the stand count before designing, and where the mill is already running we measure an existing roll to anchor the set to reality.
Set management that pays for itself
- Keep each set in its own marked case, with the stand numbers visible.
- Record hours and tonnage per set, and the regrind count.
- Keep one spare set for the highest-volume size.
- Rotate worn rolls from finishing stands to roughing stands before replacing them.
A set that is managed this way typically gives two to four regrinds and a predictable replacement date instead of an unplanned stoppage.
